DISTRICT SPED CENTERS PROPOSED IN QC

Quezon City should have at least one Special Education Center (SPED) for children with special needs in each district.

Councilor Aly Medalla of the 2nd district of QC has urged Mayor Herbert Bautista to establish District SPED centers to promote the rights of children with special needs to be given quality education.

Medalla said that establishing the SPED centers for each district, most especially in areas with no existing SPED classes, will help lower the costs of sending children to special schools.

She said that there is also a need to provide support and assistance to every child with special needs.

SPED Centers, the councilor added, could serve as venues to ensure that children with special needs will fully develop their abilities, talents, interests, and all aspects of their development so they can become more responsible for their lives and more effective partners in all the affairs and concerns of the country.

She believed that establishing SPED centers will also create awareness and positive attitude effect towards disability. Divine/ Maureen QuiƱones, PAISO
