The leader of a local drug group operating in the province of Negros Oriental was arrested by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in an entrapment operation in Zamboangita City, Negros Oriental.
PDEA Director General Undersecretary Jose S. Gutierrez Jr. said that on November 15, 2011, at around 1:45 PM, anti-narcotics agents of PDEA Negros Oriental, together with elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG), Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) and Zamboangita Police arrested the suspect, identified as Nerio Irlanda, alias Eliong, in a buy-bust operation at South Malatapay, Maluay, Zamboangita, Negros Oriental.
Irlanda, the notorious leader of the Eliong Drug Group, yielded a total of four pieces of shabu sachets and the 500-peso marked bill which was used as the buy-bust money.
Reports indicated that Eliong and his cohorts operate in Zamboangita town and other neighboring municipalities. Also, it was disclosed that they get their illegal drugs from Tanjay and Dumaguete City. Evangeline DJ Almenario, Chief, Public Information Office, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency
