PAGASA Sees a weak La Nina conditions until December to May 2012

The weak La Nina conditions that the Philippine Atmospheric Geographical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) sees in the tropical Pacific is expected to strengthen and may continue until the December, January, and February (DJF) season and may last until May-June 2012.

Between 1-2 tropical cyclones are expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility from December 2011 to May 2012.

Transition of seasonal winds from Northeast (NE) to Southwest (SW) is expected during the months of April to May 2012.

Wetter than normal rainfall conditions for Dec. 2011 to May 2012 will likely be experienced over most parts of the country.

Rainfalls during the months of January 2012 to May 2012 are expected to be higher than normal. In February, eastern parts of the country prone to landslides and flashfloods are cautioned.

In April, there will be low rainfall, compared to the high rainfall expected to come within the La Nina period and in May near to above normal rainfall, more rains than usual. Ester Z. Gallardo, PSciJourn Mega Manila
