QC TO WIDEN 3 TRAFFIC CONGESTION POINTS

Quezon City residents will soon be relieved from spending hours of travel time on some of the major roads in the city.

Secretary to the Mayor and Novaliches District Center (NDC) officer-in-charge Tadeo Palma said that the city government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be undertaking road widening in some heavy traffic-prone roads and highways including Quirino Highway and General Luis in Novaliches and IBP Road in Batasan Hills.

At present, Palma said that the road widening of Quirino Highway and General Luis had initially commenced in portions where some business establishments affected had been asked to voluntarily vacate their areas to give way for the road improvement or else face demolition.

He said once the project in Quirino Highway, which will start in Mindanao Avenue to Sauyo Road , is completed, there will be two additional lanes that motorists can utilize and this may ease the traffic difficulties in the area.

On IBP Road, the planned widening was initiated by House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. to ease traffic flow especially during rush hours from Filinvest I to Sinagtala.

Palma said that the IBP Road widening is also necessary to give way to the proposed Batasan General Hospital, which the city government will finance to augment the city’s health facilities in District 2. Maureen QuiƱones, PAISO

  1. Is demolition the answer to relieve traffic? why not build an overpass instead? and what would the mayor do for the less unfortunate people that lost their houses? would the mayor reimburse them for what they've spent to build their homes throughout the years or atleast relocate them?

  2. demolition is not the answer to relieve traffic congestion. traffic in quezon city is normal and will never be relieved this has been a problem for decades. batasan general hospital dont even exist yet. i think that it's just an excuse for demolition and for publicity for whoever is behind it don't you think? i don't see any comments because im pretty sure that no one has anything better to say about this issue

  3. Im a concerned filipino/american citizen who happened to have had live and still have families and friends living in the areas affected by road widening. I would like to know if the mayor has any plans to reimburse and relocate the less unfortunate people FAIRLY.

  4. Face it! traffic in the philippines has always been the number one problem for decades and Road widening is just an excuse to get rid of squatters (the needy) the only solution to get rid of squatters is for the government to concentrate more on creating jobs than widening roads plain and simple. make these squatters become tax payers by creating jobs and get rid of corruptions to better our country.
