“MY HOUSE HUSBAND” WINS QC’S AWARD

The Quezon City government, through the Gender and Development Resource and Coordinating Office (GADRCO), has chosen OctoArts Films’ “My House Husband” for QC’s Most Gender Sensitive Film Award in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival.

A domestic drama, “My House Husband” is an entertaining portrayal of a middle-class macho husband who loses his job and ends up with doing household chores usually done by women.

The winning comedy-drama film that stars the real life partners Ryan Agoncillo and Judy Ann Santos, was chosen among the seven MMFF full length movie entries as it depicts the equality of male and female sexes in matrimony.

For the past nine years, the Most Gender Sensitive Film award has been given annually by the Quezon City Government as the city’s tribute to the local filmmakers who use the cinematic art in encouraging people to veer away from violence against women and other gender biases.

Aside from the city’s award to the MMFF mainstream movie, the QC government extended a citation to the most gender sensitive independent “indie” film in the MMFF Next Wave category that shows gender equality. The film HIV by Neal Tan bested nine other entries under the independent film category.

The QC Most Gender Sensitive Film Award for mainstream film consists of both cash and a signature sculpted trophy from artist Sandra Torrijos.

The QC government has institutionalized the award, in partnership with the Metro Manila Film Festival Board, to pay tribute in every year’s local film entry that displays the values of gender equality and empowerment of Filipino men and women. Rico/ Maureen Quiñones, PAISO
