100 WHEELCHAIRS FOR QC PWDs

Quezon City Councilor Dorothy Delarmente will distribute some 100 wheelchairs as a special Valentine gift to the city’s underprivileged disabled residents in the first district.

Councilor Delarmente, a doctor by profession, has partnered with her fraternity brothers from the Phi Kappa Mu of the University of the Philippines’ College of Medicine, to facilitate the distribution of the free wheelchairs, which will also serve as the councilor’s Valentine gift to the city’s disabled constituents.

The turnover ceremony, which will be held on February 12, will be highlighted by an advocacy walk from Philcoa to the QC Hall Risen Garden grounds. The activity will also have as participants previous beneficiaries of the program.

The lady councilor expressed optimism that the project shall serve as an effective venue to increase the level of public awareness on the plight of persons with disabilities in the city that they, too, need to be empowered to ensure their successful integration into the mainstream of national growth and development.

Last year, the fraternity, under its flagship project “Empowerment Through Mobility,” also provided similar donations to Quezon City.

Aside from QC, the UP-PGH based fraternity will also be providing wheelchairs to other local government units as well as hospitals and non-government organizations around the country.-30- Maureen Quinones, PAISO.

PWD BIGYAN NG SAPAT NA SERBISYO

INTERNATIONAL DAY NG PWD GINUNITA
BILANG paggunita sa “International Day of Persons with Disabilities” ay nagkaroon ng selebrasyon ang marami nating kababayan na may kapansanan noong Disyembre 3, 2010 sa Skydome SM North EDSA na may temang “Keeping the Promise: Mainstreaming Disability in the Millenium Development Goals” na pinangunahan nina Mr. Ming Barapantao at Ms. Carmen Zubiaga.
Ang nasabing aktibidad ay dinaluhan iba’t-ibang lider at kasapi ng PWD at sinuportahan ng ilang sangay ng pamahalaan tulad ng Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), House of Representative, National Council on Disability Affairs, Philippine Information Agency, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of National Defense (DND), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), SM Supermalls ng Office of Disability Affairs, Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine, Nova Foundation for Differently-Abled Persons Inc., Women With Disabilities Leap to Social and Economic Progress, Autism Society of the Philippines, Leonard Cheshire Disability Foundation-Young Voices, New Vois Association of the Philippines Inc., Philippine Association for Citizens with Developmental & Learning Disabilities Inc., Parents Association of Visually Impaired Children (PAVIC), Katipunan ng mga Kawal na may Kapansanan Inc. (KKKI), Philippine Sports Association for the Differently-Abled (PHILSPADA-NPC), Philippine Federation of the Deaf (PFD), Life Haven, Cerebral Palsied Association of the Philippines Inc., (CPAP), Katipunan ng May Kapansanan sa Pilipinas Inc. (KAMPI), at Alyansa ng may Kapansanang Pinoy Inc. (AKAP-Pinoy).
