Mt. Kitanglad’s Bryophytes Assessed

In a study conducted by the Central Mindanao University (CMU), rare and potentially endangered bryophytes as well as those with potential medicinal properties were identified in Mt. Kitanglad in Bukidnon. The CMU project aimed to assess the diversity and ecological status of bryophytes species in the mountain listed as one of the ASEAN Heritage Parks. CMU is one of the consortia of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD).

Bryophytes are small green spores bearing nonvascular moisture-loving plants. Sensitive to change in the environment, they are good indicators of environmental problems like air pollution and even climate change.
