TAAL WATER QUALITY UPDATE

The dissolved oxygen levels in Taal Lake waters had greatly improved compared to the result of the water sampling last July 11 owing to the favorable weather conditions in the past few days BFAR Dir. Atty Asis Perez said.

Except for the areas of Berinayan, Leviste, Buso-Buso and Bañaga, all other areas in Talisay, Laurel, Agoncillo and San Nicoalas have DO levels of at least 6.0 ppm.

BFAR technicians conduct water sampling in 14 stations in Taal Lake twice a week. The sampling areas are Aya, Quiling, Tumaway and Samplaoc in Talisay; Berinayan, Leviste and Buso-Buso in Laurel; Bañaga, Bilibinwang and Manalaw in Agoncillo and Poblacion in San Nicolas.

Asis also said that the dismantling operations of illegal fish cages continue today with the deployment of 2 patrol boats from the BFAR. A total of 481 units of illegal fish cages had already been dismantled to date. BUREAU OF FISHERIES AND AQUATIC RESOURCES-DA
